Nonna Surzhina (born 17 October 1937 in Dnepropetrovsk, the Ukrainian SSR, USSR) is a Soviet and Ukrainian opera and chamber mezzo soprano singer. Surzhina studied vocals at the Dnepropetrovsk Music College named after M.I. Glinka and the Kharkiv National University of Arts named after I.P. Kotlyarevsky, graduating in 1963. From 1963 to 1974, she was one of the leading singers of the Kharkiv Opera and Ballet Theatre, comprising roles of Solomia in K. Dankevych's «Bogdan Khmelnitsky», Olga in P. Tchaikovsky's «Evgeny Onegin», Carmen in G. Bizet's «Carmen», Spring and Lel in N. Rimsky-Korsakov's «The Snow Maiden», Joan in P. Tchaikovsky's «The Maid of Orleans», Susuki in G. Puccini's «Madama Butterfly» and many more. Surzhiva was active touring in the USSR and abroad with the repertoire of classical chamber works and compositions by foreign and Soviet composers. In 1974, she took up teaching at the Dnepropetrovsk Conservatory. The holder of the titles of People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1975) and People's Artist of the USSR (1976).
